Thwomps are large floating blue blocks with a face that appear in Mario 64. They attack by falling down to attempt to crush Mario. They can be used as a platform for some stars.
Phenomena[]
Silent Thwomps[]
Some reports claim that some Thwomps, found in levels seemingly chosen at random, are silent and do not play their iconic "UNNGH" voice clip. It is unclear whether this is the result of personalization or a glitch preventing their sound effects from playing correctly.
Wrong sound[]
Thwomps can play the wrong voice clips, pulling from Mario and Bowser's sound catalog. In cases of AI Dementia, they may even pull sounds from Peach's opening and the ending monologue.
Modern Thwomps[]
Some personalized copies report seeing grey Thwomps with spikes on their top and bottom, resembling their appearance in other Mario Games. The only way to dispose of them is to trick them into throwing themselves off the map.
Enraged Thwomps[]
Some players have reported seeing a red Thwomp going up and down fast, that the player has no opportunity to run under them, instead having to get around them. They may even begin to chase the player if they are in the Thwomp's range of sight.
Sleeping Thwomp[]
A Thwomp that functions like a Pirahna Plant, not acting until the player disturbs them. Doing this may cause them to transition into their enraged state.
Concrete[]
Thwomps may be absent, and their faces can be found on the castle itself.
