The Cremini System is an anomalous space-themed level reportedly found in some personalized copies of Super Mario 64, reportedly found in the anomalous Castle Dungeon area once the player finds a way to unlock a jail cell in the entry hallway. The level has been described as very unique amongst the anomalous levels, as it appears to mainly consist of sub-areas, with the main segment of the level functioning as a miniature hub world. The level's music appears to be unique, and tends to change depending on what sub-area the player is in, though it has been reported to sound very similar to music from Star Fox 64.
Description[]
The Cremini System is generally described as a solar system with several planets and a large blue star in the center, notably having the main area of the level acting as a miniature hub world where the player can navigate around to access several sub-areas making up a majority of the level as well as most of the level's Power Stars. Notably, most sub-areas are inaccessible until a certain amount of Power Stars in the level are collected. This level also appears to potentially be a product of Major Level Expansion in some reports, as it has rarely been reported to have many more than 7 Power Stars due to it's size and amount of sub-areas.
Main Area[]
The level's main area is described as a series of pathways with platforms in outer space, usually made from stars or asteroids leading to several notable objects, mainly planets and asteroids that, when jumped towards, will warp the player to one of the level's many sub-areas. This area reportedly has unique low gravity, allowing the player to jump higher than usual in this area. There are also several background decorations, such as the system's central star, other stars and planets, with some of these reportedly being accessible sub-areas, being reached using hidden pathways. Another notable landmark that has been reported is a planet resembling Earth that, when jumped towards, will lead the player to part of Princess Peach's Castle, implying that the planet Super Mario 64 takes place on is part of the Cremini System.
Main Planets[]
The Main Planets consist of 2-5 sub-areas taking place on several planets making up a majority of the Cremini System. These planets typically have 1-3 Power Stars, scaling down depending on the amount of planets. The planets tend to fit a certain theme, such as ice, rock, or forest. Something worth noting is that these planets tend to have signs of occupation, potentially either by aliens or from Toads exploring the Cremini System, likely attempting to obtain resources or inhabit these other planets. Notably, the enemies found on these planets tend to be more prone to Enemy Discoloring, likely representing alien versions of these enemies.
Asteroids[]
Asteroids are smaller sub-areas that typically only contain coins to be collected to aid with obtaining this level's 100 coin Power Star. They tend to vary in color and size, though they are most commonly gray. Notably, some have reported that Asteroids can contain the level's red coins, requiring the player to go to the Asteroids to obtain the Power Star. There tend to be 2-5 Asteroids in the Cremini System.
Space Ship[]
The Space Ship is a rarer sub-area in the Cremini System taking place in, as the name suggests, a space ship. It tends to contain Toads or the alien life that could be found on the main planets in some copies. A notable character that has been reported here is Commander Toad, the leader of the Toads on the space ship and also the one driving the ship, potentially being a Coincidental Character Creation version of Captain Toad similarly to Scout Toad. Commander Toad tends to have a blue color, though they have been reported to be several other colors.
The Black Hole[]
The Black Hole is a supposed hidden sub-area found in the outer Cremini System inside of the titular Black Hole. Likely due to the nature of a Black Hole, the actual sub-area is very inconsistent, though it is often described as wacky and bizarre. This area is notable as some have reported that it functions as it's own level, simply being accessed through the Cremini System, similarly to how Cavern of the Metal Cap is found inside of Hazy Maze Cave but is not part of the level.
Missions[]
The missions for the Cremini System tend to be inconsistent due to the inconsistency of the main planets, though the planets tend to have several platforming sections to lead to some Power Stars, as well as an underground maze, potentially as a result of mining from the Toads or aliens to obtain resources. Another relatively consistent Power Star is obtained through red coins typically found either at the Asteroid sub-areas or in the maze. A single Power Star has been reported in the main area, being found by platforming on the platforms used to navigate the main area until the Power Star is reached. The final consistent Power Stars tend to be found in the Space Ship, being obtained by unlocking a door containing the Power Star, and talking to a Toad found somewhere in the Cremini System, usually the Space Ship.
Trivia[]
- Cremini is a type of edible mushroom, potentially being a reference to Toads or the Mushroom Kingdom in general, as Super Mario 64 supposedly takes place on a planet in the Cremini System.
