Spindels are uncommon enemies in Super Mario 64, with only one appearing throughout the entire game. They are a variant of Grindels, and take the appearance of large mummified cylinders that roll around their designated area, crushing the player if they are in the way. In the area of Shifting Sand Land's pyramid where the Spindel resides, there is a small hole in the wall where the player is supposed to hide from the Spindel. However, it is possible to climb over the Spindel. Spindels are invincible.
Phenomena[]
Enemy Discoloring[]
Main Article: Enemy Discoloring
Blue Spindels have reported to appear in snow or ice levels via Enemy Discoloring. They do not change behavior, and more commonly appear in anomalous levels such as Cold, Cold Crevasse and Chroma Tundra due to the lack of sufficient locations for Spindels in Cool, Cool Mountain and Snowman's Land without Major Level Expansion or other methods of geometry edits.
Sound Effects[]
Spindels have been reported to reuse the voice clip from Thwomps in come copies. Every time it bumps into a wall and turns around, it plays the iconic grunting sound. It is unknown if this is an intentional change or the result of a glitch playing the wrong sound.
