Salty Salty Shore refers to an unused course that can replace Hazy Maze Cave at random if the Personalisation A.I is in effect. The course's start contains a beach-like area similar to Tiny-Huge Island, with the inside of the course having a cavern-like structure, similar to Hazy Maze Cave, but with whiter rocks, and fog across the course. Small puddles of water appear in areas where pits usually are, although nothing is inside them. The level also contains a boss fight against Dorrie, despite it being an ally in the final game. The boss battle contains an arena with a small stone platform, and the skybox of the beach area.
Layout[]
Salty Salty Shore contains an outdoor area, which Mario spawns in. The outside section consists of sand and water, with a grassy edge, similar to the edges of Tiny-Huge Island. The water contains Bubba, and 8 red coins to find. The skybox is a desaturated real world beach, with some editing over it like Wet-Dry World's. The source of the skybox photograph is unknown, unlike Wet-Dry World's, which is a photo of the Yemeni city, Shibam. A small entrance is next to the shore, containing a misty cavern similar in style to Hazy Maze Cave. The stone on the walls is very desaturated and white, and mist overlays the whole level. Water covers up all the pits, although nothing is in the water except for the lake spanning the inside, which contains generic fish, and some Sushi, including a white Sushi, although the difference between it and the original Sushi is unclear. Other enemies include Snufits, Scuttlebugs, Goombas, and Piranha Plants.
Boss Fight[]
The lake will form a circle around an island, with a sunbeam coming down on it from the top of the cave. Staring into the sunbeam, like in Tower of Wing Cap, will teleport you into a small grey arena, and play the boss fight music. A fight with Dorrie will engage, with its design looking a bit eviler than it is in the final. Dorrie will attack by lowering its head and biting at Mario. Mario must get on its back and ground pound it 3 times to get the star. Each ground pound will knock Mario back; however, when Dorrie is encountered, a dialogue box will appear. "Dorrie don't like trespassers! Dorrie eat tiny plumber! He no visit Dorrie's cave!" Another one appears when defeated. "Dorrie has failed! Plumber is free! Plumber take star! Go!" Dorrie's attack also causes texture bugs when it hits and can crash or even corrupt the game if Mario dies. It is unknown why this happens, but it could be errors or faulty code from the AI.
Theorizing[]
This map is thought to be some sort of A.I mashup between Wet-Dry World and Hazy Maze Cave, or to be some sort of beta version or clone level of Hazy Maze Cave, considering the similarities between them. Dorrie's inclusion as a boss, and the slight redesign also confirms that Dorrie's original idea was to be a boss, instead of the friendly water surfing dino Dorrie is known as today. The text "Don't become his lunch." in Hazy Maze Cave could be connected to this course.

wasteofblood's documentation[]
The Youtuber wasteofblood documented what appears to be an alternate version of the level on his channel. The mentioned version is set inside a chasm and consists of an array of several islands and shores connected by several narrow sand pathways and platforms, forming a discontinuous path between the shore the player spawns on and an elevated stone platform on which a power star is located. Another power star can be obtained by finding 8 red coins that are scattered around this area.
Salty Cavern[]
1995-07-29 Build - Salty Cavern - Salty, Salty Shore subarea OST
Salty Cavern soundtrack
The player can find a waterfall located on the right of the main path, which the player can swim through to enter a subarea nicknamed "Salty Cavern". This subarea is an intricate, purple cave system that features underground lakes and rivers filled with green and purple water. Goombas and Fly Guys can be found in this area.
The missions that take place in it include:[]
- A relatively hard to find treasure chest riddle similar to the ones in Jolly Roger Bay and Dire, Dire Docks, but with 7 chests instead of four.
- Finding 8 secrets scattered around the cave system, most of them being located in alcoves.
- A boss fight against a variation of Mother Dorrie, taking place in an anomalous area called Mother Dorrie's Nest.
- A yet unspecified mission that would require the player to return to Mother Dorrie's Nest.
- Obtaining the coins scattered around the subarea and completing every other mission before first are supposedly necessary to obtain the 100 coins star of this level.

Other differences encountered in wasteofblood's copy include:[]
- The area features the pine trees known from the beta version of the game.
- The Boss fight against Dorrie is missing.
- There is a comma in the level's name, bringing about the name "Salty, Salty Shore" instead of "Salty Salty Shore".
