Rainy Ruins is an anomalous level found in some personalized copies of Super Mario 64. This level usually replaces Dire, Dire Docks, but sometimes it can replace Wet-Dry World. It is an open course that has two sections a clifftop and some underwater ruins. The level's skybox shows a cloudy sky on a sunset. One odd thing about this course is that it uses a lot of unused assets like different rock textures, water geysers, and even a falling rain effect.

Missions[]

1. TO THE TOP OF THE FLOODED CASTLE

2. HUNT IN THE HIDDEN CITY

3. REDS IN THE KELP FOREST

4. PASSWORD PLEASE

5. CLIMB THE RIDGE

6. RIDE THE GEYSERS

7. 100 Coin Star

To the Top of the Flooded Castle[]

For the first star, Mario has to swim and climb his way up the castle in the middle of the ruins.

Hunt in the Hidden City[]

This star is said to be either a find the secrets star, or a platforming challenge where you have to jump on top of buildings to get the star.

Reds in the Kelp Forest/Reds on the Ridge[]

For this star Mario either has to collect red coins in a kelp forest or on the ridge of the clifftop.

Password Please[]

In the same cave as star 2, there are eight panels Mario must press to get the star. The order can vary depending on copies ranging from it being on a stone, in the castle or just not shown.

Climb the Ridge[]

For this star, Mario needs to climb up the wall section of the clifftop using many different parts of the level.

Ride the Geysers[]

There are a bunch of geysers that can boost Mario up to higher places. A group of these leads Mario to a star.

Geography[]

As stated earlier, this level has two segments: one half is a clifftop, and the other (much larger) half is an underwater town. On the clifftop, there are things like bridges, palm trees, geysers, and vines. The underwater section has things like destroyed houses, a ruined castle, kelp forests, and caves. The castle area is really large with many rooms. This includes dining rooms, a throne room, bedrooms and a tower Mario must climb to obtain the star. The enemies found throughout the level are Monty Moles, Bubs, Skeeters, and even Sushi from Dire, Dire Docks.

Theorizing[]

Due to the stage's many similarities to Dire, Dire Docks, it is theorized that it was an early version of Dire, Dire Docks but some think it is a completely original stage with how many unique assets there are in the level. Also because of how complete it is, people believe it was cut very late in development.
