1995-07-29 Build - Mother Dorrie's Nest OST + footage
Soundtrack and compiled footage of the area and boss fight
Mother Dorrie's Nest is an anomalous area that is most commonly found in Salty, Salty Shore's subarea "Salty Cavern", however it has also been reported to replace Dorrie's Pond in Hazy Maze Cave. It's been described as a larger variation of the former mentioned pond with a darker color scheme, featuring dark purple, dark green and grey textures. The pond's water has been reported to be either dark purple or dark green as well, however some reports suggest that it can also be colored silver or gold.
In personalized copies that include Salty Cavern, Mother Dorrie's Nest is reportedly very hard to locate because of the cavern's intricate and confusing layout. Most reports suggested that one of the alcoves featured in the area would have an access to a small and narrow tunnel, similar to the secret shortcut in Cool, Cool Mountain's Slide subarea, that would allow the player to slide down to the area in question.
Mother Dorrie[]

A boss fight against Mother Dorrie supposedly takes place once the player arrives at her nest. Reports on her behavior suggest that encountering her in Salty, Salty Shore to be a slightly different experience than when encountered in Hazy Maze Cave. She supposedly undergoes phases during the fight that showcase a more actively aggressive version of the boss. Reported attack patterns include:
- Diving down below the pond, following the swimming Mario and lunging out once he slows down enough for Mother Dorrie to catch him.
- Jumping from one point of the pond to the other side of it in an attempt to eat the player in the process.
- Mother Dorrie has been reported to extend her neck to an unnatural degree in an attempt to reach far enough to eat Mario when he's on a platform or diving underneath her.
If the player isn't able to dodge these attacks fast enough they would reportedly result in Mario getting devoured and a game over screen appearing, no matter how many lives the player had left at that point. The means of defeating her have not been verified yet, however the aftermath of her defeat has been documented multiple times:

- The gate that would hinder the player from accessing the hallway, which would lead to the Metal-Head Mario Can Move! star in Hazy Maze Cave, opens and reveals a water switch at the end.
- Activating the water switch would result in the level's textures changing in a manner that can be described as the color being drained, leaving behind a brighter color scheme consisting of bright white, green and brown. A star would appear on the island in the middle of the pond after the switch was to be activated.

- After the switch was activated the puddle at the end of the other hallway, that would lead the player to Cavern of the Metal Cap in Hazy Maze Cave, which was previously filled with green liquid that would instantly kill the player if they tried to jump into it would now supposedly lead the player to a subarea that contains a way to unlock an alternative version of the Metal Cap, reportedly named "Mercury Cap".
