Goombas are one of the most common enemies in the Super Mario series. Making their first appearance in the third dimension with Super Mario 64, they charge at Mario when he gets near and must be defeated by jumping on them or attacking them.
Their bodies are made of three main parts; The head, the torso, and the feet. The head features the Goomba's eyes, eyebrows, mouth, and fangs. The body is a yellow orb-shaped ball that rotates around Mario as he moves around the Goomba. Lastly, the feet are a low-poly oval-shaped object that is flat on the bottom, and walk as it is marching, fitting as it is in Bob-omb Battlefield as well. They also appear in smaller and larger sizes, most commonly named Mini-Goombas and Big Goombas.

Mystery Goomba[]

- The Mystery Goomba describes a Goomba in Bowser in the Sky where a Goombas spawn was misplaced and put where the Goomba would spawn at the bottom of the void.
Spike Helmets[]
Goombas can sometimes appear with spiked helmets similar to a Spiny's shell. The helmet protects the Goomba and hurts Mario if the player decides to jump onto it, instead requiring the player to use a punch or dive to take them out. They tend to spawn on small platforms or in groups, taking advantage of the player not being able to jump on them. Interestingly, a similar variant of Goombas adorning spiked helmets later appeared in the Paper Mario series.
Goomba Tower[]
The first official appearance of goomba towers was in Super Mario 3D Land. When they manifest in your copy, they’ll simply be around 4-6 Goombas stacked on top of each other, requiring the player to knock down the tower with punches and kicks or a well timed ground pound to squish them all. Some players have reported a mission called “GOOMBA TOWER TAKEDOWN” appearing along with the goomba towers. The mission requires the player to knock down a much taller than usual Goomba tower that contains a star on the top.
Goomba Floaties[]
Goombas with floaties made their official debut in Super Mario 3D World, although they can be found in select copies of Mario 64. These goombas are said to float atop waters with their floaties, although besides that they seem to behave like any normal goomba. It’s reported that if goomba floaties are in your copy that any normal goomba that falls into water will gain a floaty and that any goomba on a floaty will jump out of their floaty to get back onto land if there is any nearby to continue chasing the player. Very few have said they’ve spotted these goombas floating around on other liquids such as lava, although these reports have yet to be confirmed.
Goombas Biting The Player[]
In a recent interview, Shigeru Miyamoto revealed that he originally intended for Goombas to bite the player as early as their NES appearance. While this feature has been utilized in the newly released Super Mario Wonder, recent reports indicate that this chomping attack was secretly accessible in Super Mario 64, usually by means of personalization.
Paragoomba[]
Enemies commonly appearing across the Super Mario series reported as appearing in Super Mario 64, most commonly in Rainbow Ride but also in very rare instances Bob-omb Battlefield. They appear as similar to regular goombas but with wings. Reports on behaviour vary with some reporting that they behave just like regular goombas with a re-skin, others saying they fly in a fixed pattern and others reporting that they fly freely around chasing Mario.
