Wikiflamer's frosty frosty peaks painting

A recreation of a painting that led to Frosty, Frosty Peaks. Notice that it is an altered version of the Cool, Cool Mountain painting.

Frosty, Frosty Peaks is an anomalous snow level found in some personalized copies of Super Mario 64. It has been described as a mountainous region in the middle of a tundra with an overall blue-ish tint, having light blue or cyan snow and mountains made of dark blue rock. Frosty, Frosty Peaks commonly appears in place of Cool, Cool Mountain, potentially being an anomalous version of the level, though it has also been reported to be found in the Cool, Cool Mountain painting on the other side of the mirror room in Princess Peach's Castle and the broken Cool, Cool Mountain painting on the Second Floor.

Description[]

Frosty, Frosty Peaks is described as an open cyan or light blue snow-covered area with several dark blue rocky mountains that make up a majority of the level, with very little notable major geometry beyond the mountains, potentially implying Dynamic Level Arrangement. The enemies in the level tend to be Mr. Blizzards and Spindrifts, as well as ice and snow-related Enemy Discoloring instances.

Notably, some areas such as rocky pillars and an ice pillar (not to be confused with the Ice Spire associated with Peach's Bedroom) have been reported, usually leading up to a Power Star, as well as an underground ice maze similar to Pit of Peril's Cold Cavern area. These areas also reportedly have objects using the unused Cracked Ice texture, lacking collision or having to be broken to continue depending on their placement.

A strange semi-consistent collectible associated with Frosty, Frosty Peaks is a "Frost Key" similar to the inaccessible Ice Key seen in Banjo-Kazooie. The way to obtain this key is highly inconsistent, though it commonly requires pressing a cyan switch to unlock the area containing the key, although the location of this switch is also very inconsistent. What the Frost Key unlocks is also inconsistent, if it unlocks anything at all.

Missions[]

The most common missions in Frosty, Frosty Peaks are made up of the aforementioned areas, as well as entering a mountain where a Power Star resides. Another common star is obtained from red coins, typically found in the Ice Maze. A final consistent Power Star is found by climbing up a particularly tall mountain where this Power Star can be found.
