Eyerok, also known as the Hands or Stone Hands, is a boss that appears in Super Mario 64 and Super Mario 64 DS. It is a pair of two large stone hands with an eyeball on each palm, making it a golem-like entity. It is an undead pharaoh stored in a black sarcophagus in the depths of the pyramid of Shifting Sand Land.
Attacks[]
Eyerok will attempt a number of attacks with his large stone hands. He'll use them to slap Mario, stomp him while clenching his fists, or wave them off the platform with the backs of his hands. If the player falls off the platform, he will be swallowed by the sand below and lose a life.
Strategy[]
The player can only harm Eyerok, when the eyes on his palms are open. The player then has to run up to the hand with the opened eye and punch or kick the eye. This will cause the hand to flinch and the other one to attack Mario. Eyerok's hands can easily be avoided by running in circles or doing jumping flips to the side. Hitting the eye of a hand three times will make the hand shatter to pieces, similar to breaking a Box. Once both the hands are defeated, Eyerok will admit defeat and give the player a Power Star.
Phenomena[]
Solo Hand[]
In copies personalized to be easier, reportedly only one of Eyerok's hands appears during the fight. This effectively cuts the length of the battle in half and makes the difficulty much easier. Whether the right or left hand is gone is seemingly chosen at random. Some claim that Eyerok has unique dialogue in this event, either being confused or afraid by the lack of their other hand.
e_gourem[]
Found within the files of the 2020 leak was an unused object scrapped early in development. Referred to as Gourem,[1] the placement of the object implies it to be an earlier version of Eyerok or even a different boss originally designed for the level. What Gourem is and what it looks like are still unknown, as no files are attached to the name.
