This page refers to actual collectible Easter Eggs, and not hidden secrets in the game that have the same name.

Easter Eggs are supposed collectibles that can only be found in some personalized copies of Super Mario 64, and usually only appear during Easter or Spring due to the Internal Clock anomaly, though they can appear outside of these timeframes. They take the appearance of eggs with various designs and colors on them, usually having unique designs, though multiple Easter Eggs with the same design have been reported. Each design has been reported to have a unique reward or behavior when collected.

Egg Design Types[]

These are just the most common behaviors and rewards of the Easter Eggs listed, and they may function differently in other copies.

Basic Eggs[]

Basic Eggs are described as simply consisting entirely of one color, or having a basic pattern such as polka-dots or stripes. These eggs usually do nothing besides increase health, increment the coin counter, or function as a new collectible equivalent to Power Stars with minimal usage. Some have even reported that they replace Power Stars during the period where they appear, though this is uncommon.

Egg Bombs[]

Egg Bombs are a type of egg that function similarly to Bob-ombs, either as an enemy that can explode or an object that can be picked up and thrown to cause an explosion. They can appear as an egg with a bomb fuse on it, or appear more similarly to a Bob-omb by being colored blacks, or have ornamental eyes and/or feet. These Egg Bombs can be used to explode objects or enemies. Some have drawn a resemblance to the item of the same name seen in the Paper Mario series, theorizing that the Egg Bomb concept was recycled into the Paper Mario games after being scrapped from Super Mario 64.

Level-Exclusive Eggs[]

Level-Exclusive Eggs are one-of-a-kind Easter Eggs that are found in specific levels correlating to their design. For example, the decorated Egg Bomb has been said to alternatively be a Level-Exclusive Egg that can appear in Bob-omb Battlefield. These Easter Eggs are usually only used for completion, though have been reported to function as an alternative collectible that can unlock special levels or courses. However, these reports are rare and unconfirmed.

Egg Boxes[]

Egg Boxes appear in place of ! boxes, taking the appearance of a Basic Egg in the shape of a cube. These boxes can be broken similarly to regular ! boxes, and they can contain all of the regular items seen in regular ! boxes, as well as Basic Eggs, Egg Bombs, and Level-Exclusive Eggs. These types of Easter Eggs appear similar to the Present Boxes anomaly, potentially being connected in some way.
