Fire Mario

Mario with the fire Mario costume running around Bob-omb Battlefield

The costume closet is said to be quite a rare anomaly that allows you to change Mario’s current outfit.

Manifestation[]

It’s unknown what conditions the costume closet spawns under, although it appears that you can’t have any unintended playable characters, otherwise it seems impossible for it to manifest. When it does manifest in your copy it will usually appear in the anomalous rec room, although if the rec room doesn't manifest in your copy it will likely spawn in the room with the castle’s secret slide. When it appears you may enter it, doing so will bring you to a menu where you can change Mario’s costume. The menu itself has never been described in much more detail then a menu with a Mario picture with the currently selected costume and a light brown background, along with arrows to select which costume you want to wear.

Mario outfit list[]

Below are colors that have been documented, although if you do find a new one feel free to report it here.

Luigi Mario with luigi’s color scheme except for the fact that it’s overalls are more purplish instead of the regular classic blue.
Wario Mario with Wario’s color scheme. it’s rumored that if you see this costume the Wario Apparition is likely to make an appearance on your playthrough.
Fire Mario Mario with the classic fire flower color scheme.
Inverted Mario with an inverse of the colors on his outfit, said to look very similar to the blue team costume in smash 64 and the one that Mario/Jumpman used in Donkey Kong
Classic Mario with the look he had in the original NES classic.
Gold Mario with an altered Metal Mario texture to look more gold. Note this does not affect gameplay. Commonly appears alongside the Gold Mario anomaly.
Rainbow Mario with a rainbow texture plastered all over him.
Goomba Mario with the color scheme of a goomba instead of his stock colors along with a goomba face replacing the signature M on his hat.
Lights Mario with christmas lights strung on him in a comedic fashion. Note that this costume only appears if the internal clock anomaly is in your copy and the time is winter.
Random Mario with a random color scheme supposedly generated by the AI.
Bowser This costume appears to be unfinished as it’s only the regular Mario outfit without a face. This is not the Textureless Mario Anomaly as it comes with none of it’s effects.
Gold Mario A way to use Gold Mario. Ways to unlock vary.

Unlockable Mario outfit[]

Players who have seen this anomaly have reported that sometimes one to three of the costumes need to be unlocked through various ways like collecting a certain number of coins, defeating a certain amount of enemies and beating a certain stage.

Theorizing[]

It’s widely agreed that the costume closet was cut along with the rec room, although many people are confused by it appearing in the secret slide room.

Some people think that the reason Luigi's costume has purple overalls to make sure that if the player is playing multiplayer mode that the two can be distinguished when playing the mode.
