The beta version of the Bomp

Bomps are enemies usually found only in Whomp's Fortress in Super Mario 64. They are large trapezoid-shaped stones with large eyes on their faces. They act as obstacles; if the player runs by too soon or incorrectly timed their movement, the Bomp may push them and they will fall into a bottomless pit.

Phenomena[]

Enemy Discoloring[]

Blue Bomps, also known as Sleeping Bomps, are inert until Mario steps in front of them, at which point they enrage and rapidly push after a brief cooldown.

Eyeless Variant[]

Some players have reported that the Bomps occasionally do not feature their signature giant blue eyes. It is theorized that this may be due to them appearing this way in future versions of the level, such as in the DS remake and Throwback Galaxy in Super Mario Galaxy 2.
