Chaos Edition

AI Misapplication, (also known as AI Malfunction) is a rare anomaly in Super Mario 64 that causes the Personalisation AI in the game to malfunction, spewing random and uncoordinated things in incorrect places, where it gets the term AI ‘Misapplication’. It usually is caused if the AI gets corrupted. This shares a lot of similarities with Super Mario 64 - Chaos Edition (a ROM hack of Super Mario 64). This might mean that the creator of the mod experienced it themselves in their own cartridge.

Occurrences[]

Despite the fact that 1st AI Misapplication is rare, it seems to have a very high chance of reoccurring once begun. Every level seems to have an equal chance of being affected. Typically, the misapplication is small, such as texture or enemy behavior changes. However, large amounts of misapplication have been reported to occur, such as the Chain Chomp gate in Bob-omb Battlefield being found haphazardly in different levels, and in extreme cases, the entirety of levels such as Wet-Dry World spawn in Princess Peach's Castle/Castle Courtyard.

More Information[]

When the AI malfunctions, it can spawn anything it wants, whether that be assets from other levels, textures from different locations, or even unused assets from the beta version of the game. If the AI manages to stop malfunctioning, it either goes into AI Degradation, or it tries to fix the mess it created, which, 90 percent of the time, crashes the game. After resetting the game, it can go back to normal.
